It was beautiful I went with my 9yr old son they called a day before to confirm pick up also to let me knw that we probably wouldn’t see the glowing water because of circumstances due to weather but we both enjoyed this soo much regardless

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an amazing experience from start to finish! Angel was an outstanding tour guide, seamlessly giving the tour in both English and Spanish so everyone felt included. His upbeat personality made the entire experience fun, and he even made our honeymoon feel extra special. Although the bioluminescence wasn’t visible due to the weather, the company immediately offered us several options to make it right. That same evening, I was notified that a partial refund was already being processed without me even having to ask. That level of honesty and customer service is rare. They are incredibly reputable, and I would absolutely book with them again!

We had a great time kayaking on this excursion! It was my first time kayaking while my friend was more experienced but we both had a great time! Our tour guides were obviously very experienced & were very professional. It was an excellent learning experience & it really was pretty cool watching those phytoplankton sparkling under the water.

It was a great experience. We had a lot of moonlight, so visibility was limited, but the tour guides provided tarps to help block out the light. There is a lot of paddling!!

Great experience and great trip! The transport, the staff and the guides we very professional, helpful and fun! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND this trip to everyone!

Most visit when traveling to Puerto Rico. I recommend a tour to help navigate the terrain. It can get very busy during peak season.

Author: NCLocal | Date: 4/6/2026 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

Even though we went on a night with a full moon, the tour operator made sure we were able to see the glowing algae. They stretched tarps over the kayaks so there was almost total darkness, then we could put our hand in the water and make it light up. It was as is sparks of light jumped at us. So cool! Captn Joe was the best, he saw I was getting tired and helped tow me back to port.

Gian tour guide was amazing! Had lots of fun and tour guide was very nice!

Author: Ravinder V | Date: 3/18/2026 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

Interesting adventure, tour guides were great and helpful. However it was a little overwhelming the number of people that do these trips...there are 12 kayak companies that take groups out at the same time. So if you think it's going to be a quiet and peaceful kayak outing - it's not. But you do get to see some bioluminescence. They do put a tarp over you to cut out the light so you can see it better. Tour guides are super knowledgeable and friendly.

Author: Kristen F | Date: 3/14/2026 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 4 stars

My family and I went on the bioluminescent bay kayak tour and it was an unforgettable experience. The staff is very knowledgeable, teaching us about the bioluminescence and the mangroves and making it really fun. They all had amazing personalities which made it a blast and made sure that everyone had the best chance possible to enjoy what was one of the most magical experiences, seeing the water light up and sparkle in a way that needs to be seen to believe. From our trip to Puerto Rico, we all agreed that was the highlight of the entire trip! If you are going to Puerto Rico, you absolutely must go and see the bioluminescence and there was no one I could recommend more than Peniel Access Eco Tours!

Overall great experience, was a ton of fun. For the bioluminescence we saw something like sparklers in the water

Author: Nicholas G | Date: 3/7/2026 | Source: tripadvisor | Rating: 5 stars

Quite an experience! Guides were great. If you're traveling with someone who doesn't have hand eye coordination or is athletic, be prepared to do more of the work. Getting there we were kayaking for a decent amount of time against the current. The moon was too bright the night we did it but still got a chance to see it with the tarps. Unfortunately, we had a person in our group who couldn't stop talking or using his phone with the brightness fully on so that didn't help. Warning- the brightness of the organisms is so quick that a camera actually can't capture it. The guide told us even if there wasn't a full moon, the pictures on the computer are purely to display for ads. In real life, a camera can never capture it. It's more like sparkles on your hands than the blue that you see in pictures. Expect to get fully wet. The kayaks had water in it before I even sat in it. Would have loved to try Vieques instead but it was too much of a mission to get there.

Good experience. Tour started and ended on time. We were able to Kayak through the Mangrove, see a little bit of the sunset. Could not see much Bioluminescence. But a good activity overall.

Went with my 13yo son. We enjoyed it. Felt safe and prepared. They could safely store stuff we didn't want to get wet. We had realistic expectations. It wasn't the strong glowing liquid in the images. It was more like when it's dark and you can see the sparks of static electricity. We thought it was really cool. The only problem was that I booked 6pm and arrived for 6pm to be told they texted me that it was 8pm start time (I was meeting at the Kayak Village instead of getting picked up in San Juan). I had messaged them through Trip Advisor asking that and gotten no response. So we had to wait around for 2 hours. The name on the Trip Advisory booking didn't match the name on their office in Kayak Village so that was also confusing and I initially went to the wrong office.

Great experience! Worth the trip! The guides were knowledgeable, very helpful, & entertaining. The only issue was the transportation to Fajardo. We hit traffic due to accidents (no fault of our driver) and it took over two hrs to arrive. After the adventure, the driver went out of his way to drop us really close to our Airbnb so we didn’t have to pay for an Uber from the original drop off point. Overall it was a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend this company!

We are glad we went on this experience. A few pointers for others. Bring or wear shoes that you can walk out into the river in, it is too painful bare-footed. There is no place to change or use the bathroom at the river stop so plan accordingly. There are no chairs or umbrellas to rent at the beach. We brought a hotel towel to sit on. The bathrooms at the beach are in the restaurants. There are real bathrooms at the nature trail and porta potties at the observation tower.

The process is very smooth and they take care to make sure you have a good experience. Tour guides are very helpful and kind. However, at least in our experience, I'd recommend not going in with expectations of what the google images look like. It was much more subdued (possibly because of pollution), you could only see the microorganisms at the edges of the oars during the kayaking. Once we reached the main lagoon area they gave us tarps to cover ourselves in for total darkness and splash around the water with our hands, and then they were much more visible.

Really glad we didn’t listen to other negative reviews. So happy we booked this trip. We took our four kids ages 6-12 and the guides were amazing! The kayaking was much more fun than expected as we traveled through narrow waterways like your in the jungle and it comes to a giant inland bay. Our guides caught jellyfish that our kids could hold and they even used a large tarp to cover our kayaks to block the light from the city lights so we really could see the bioluminescence! I would highly recommend this trip!!

Our experience with Emily Nitshy was truly outstanding. From start to finish, she was incredibly professional, caring, and attentive. She went above and beyond to make our tour not just smooth, but genuinely enjoyable. When we were struggling to paddle in the dark, we asked Emily if she could hook her kayak to ours — and without hesitation, she did. She pulled us the entire way, ensuring we were safe and comfortable. Her kindness and dedication were remarkable. On top of that, Emily has a fantastic sense of humor, which made the whole experience even more memorable and fun. Guides like her are rare — she made us feel supported, relaxed, and well taken care of. We highly recommend Emily for anyone looking for an unforgettable and well-guided tour. She’s simply the best!

This was a great experience, the daytime guides are super knowledgeable and friendly. I only wish there was more to do at El Yunque. It felt like the drive was longer than the actual stay there, feels like not a lot to do there compared to all the videos I saw regarding it. I do not recommend the night time kayak unless you have done kayaking before (or at least a good swimmer/not scared of the dark 😂). We went during the down season so the planktons were not as visible as you would think, but still was a fun experience. Overall it was a great experience, Luquillo was great, and I would go with these guys again.

The rainforest was beautiful. This particular tour was perfect. We were picked up at 9am. Tour started immediately with Rafael giving us details about PR as we drove by certain areas. He was considerate to all about bathroom usage. The short hike through the rainforest was very nice, we all wore teva sandals which worked great. It was pouring rain, so a pancho is recommended but we didn’t have one so we were drenched. The last stop is at Luquillo Beach, the day of our tour was gloomy and scattered rain. We enjoyed the food and drinks while we waited for transportation back to our hotel. I highly recommend this tour.

Make sure that you bring bug spray for the kayaking if you are prone to getting bug bites. I did not and I regretted it.

The night kayak tour with transportation from the hotel was amazing! We participated in the 6-8 pm one which allowed us to enjoy the sights of the mangroves as we kayaked to the middle of the lagoon. Once in the lagoon we were able to make the water glow by moving the water with our hands. The ride back through the mangroves was very dark and the paddles made the water glow. It was beautiful. The guides were very knowledgeable and had lights to guide us in the dark as needed. There are food and drink areas available to enjoy before or after the tour if you have time.

Can't say enough about Alex and this company. The guides were fantastic, the experience was exactly as promised (some of the 1-star reviews here didn't read the site or understand how nature works), and we would go back again in a heartbeat. In addition, my husband uses a wheelchair and this was by far one of the most accessible tours we've been on anywhere in the world. My family and I did the bioluminesence kayaking tour of laguna grande from fajardo and it was great! Dont expect the bioluminesence to look like the picture online because those are editied but the real thing is stunning! It really depends on the moonlight how much you will see, so try to go very late at night and when there is a newmoon, the less light the better. If there is too much light they put a tarp over you which blocks out all the light and then you can really see it. I tried taking pictures and videos and it didnt work but it was sos beautiful to see. The tour guides are amazing and have an English group and a Spnish group within the same time, just ask if you need it in Spanish when you arrive. My mom was very scared to kayak but they really helped us a lot. My dad and I got stuck and one of the tour guides, shoutout to AJ who is amazingggg, clicked our kayak to his and taught us and helped a lot! Jaime did the teaching of the bioluminescence and was so great and kind! Great experience, I 100% recommend this company!

We had so much fun on this tour! Rafael was an amazing tour guide. He was funny, knowledgeable, was very interactive with our group. Our group was about 12 people. We felt safe and taken care of. The rain forest itself was amazing as well. We saw lots of different trees, flora and the occasional lizard and snails and heard all the sounds of a rain forest. Bring good shoes because will be wet and rainy (hence rain forest!). My group of friends and I all wore water shoes and that worked great. We also saw a waterfall and went to Luquillo beach. Overall a wonderful experience! 5 stars!

It was a unique and fun experience. Highly recommend including the transportation in your booking. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, especially when we reached the bay and looked for the sparkling blue lights in the water. We are experienced kayakers, however, additional training and in the water guidance would have been helpful for those who were less familiar when we encountered currents on the return trip. Definitely worth the time on your visit to PR!

While this is called a bioluminescent bay tour, for me the highlight was definitely kayaking through the mangroves. It was quite beautiful. Our tour was just before sunset, so we could still see the grove on the way out to the bay. At the mouth if the river we were treated to the most beautiful sunset over the bay. After the sun set, you could see a slight glow in the water when you dragged your hand or your paddle through. It's not like the kayaks left shimmering trails on the water, so if you're looking for that, you will be disappointed. There were several groups on the lake with us. Each kayak had a little glow stick at its bow and stern, or a small light to identify the groups. It was actually pretty cool to see all those colorful lights on the black lake. On the trip back through the mangroves, it was pitch dark and all you could see was the soft glow of the bows and sterns of the kayaks ahead of you. The guides knew the river so well that they were able to call out "right turn ahead" or "left turn now" in the dark. They would briefly shine a light so that the first kayak could catch a glimpse of the turn, and the everyone would just follow. A very pleasant experience, easy paddling (no current) and great for solo, couples or families.

The guides were amazing! We had 4 and they were all nice, informative and very efficient/helpful. The bioluminescence was hard to see until they brought the tarp out, then it’s pretty cool. It did rain pretty hard on the way back (which the tour company did warn us ahead of time that it would rain) but it did take away from the experience a little. I would say if it’s supposed to rain and you can reschedule it to a different night that would be ideal. My only complaint and reason I took off a star is because it was very crowded and difficult to kayak through the mangroves on the way out. There were 30 people in our group which is just too much. The listing says max of 12 people per group and even though we had enough tour guides, 30 people is just way too many people to try to get through the currents in the mangrove. The current was super strong on the way out and several kayakers didn’t know what to do so it caused us all to crash together several times. The guides were there and on top of it and even got out of their kayaks and into the water to pull kayaks through the currents. The only way to prevent this from being so chaotic would have been to book less people in each group. So again, 5 stars for the guides, 4 for the experience.

Fun tour! Long ride to get there if staying in Old San Juan area. Loved the mangrove part of the paddle, wish the bio bay paddle part was longer! All in all very glad we did this.

We took a night kayaking tour in Laguna Grande, Fajardo, to witness the bioluminescence. The guides were pleasant, and the kayak trip itself, through the mangrove canal and into the bay, was very cool. Unfortunately the experience was dominated by the sheer number of people. There were at least 30 people/15 kayaks in our group and we were one of many other companies and groups doing the same. Paddling through the canal required vigilance to avoid running into other kayaks and motor boats going the other direction, as well as avoiding those in our own group. The bioluminescence in the bay was also very cool but far more subtle than we had imagined and required putting a tarp, provided by the guides, over our heads to see best. Overall, we are glad we did it but if you are looking for a quiet wilderness experience, this is not it.

We had a great time getting to kayak and see the bioluminescence bay. The tour included pickup and drop off from the San Juan area which made it accessible and convenient. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly: we confirmed our tour twice, storage for our belongings, lifejackets, and a tarp was provided over our kayak so we could clearly see the plankton. The 4:30 pm time allowed for us to begin kayaking at sunset and it was dark by the time we reached the bay.

We did the Bioluminescent Bay Kayak Tour with transportation from San Juan from 4:30-9:30. The transportation made it so easy and convenient. Kayaking through the mangrove forest channel was amazing and a smooth easy ride, especially if you’ve kayaked before. There were some other people who had never kayaked before and struggled with it, but the tour guides were so helpful and patient to anyone who needed help. You kayak around 2 miles out to the bio bay at just about nightfall. We had some cloud cover creating light pollution so they gave us tarps to create darkness. The tarps made the bioluminescence come alive, it looked like dancing sparkles in the water. You could see the bioluminescence nearly all the way back through the mangrove channel as it was dark enough on the kayak journey back. I would recommend this to anyone who is considering it, it was such an amazing experience and definitely a bucket list item to see bioluminescence! The tour guides were also very friendly, patient, and entertaining. The only note is that there were a lot of other kayakers so you definitely had to maintain good control of your kayak to not crash into the person in front of you, but I don’t think this took away from the experience. It was worth every penny in my opinion!

Nature is so amazing. The micro organisms are amazing. Splashing your hand in the water and seeing the glow is a must trip for anyone visiting Puerto Rico. We opted for the pick up in San Juan. Our drive Angel Diaz was fun and full of stories. The kayaking was awesome in the dark through the river to the bay. Came to Puerto Rico to celebrate my wife’s 60th birthday and seeing a bioluminescent bay was #1 on our to do list. This tour was fantastic! The guides were helpful and friendly. We were a little anxious about the kayaking since we hadn’t done it in years but it was fine. Would highly recommend this tour!

The experience was fun. The only down side was how many people are out there and we went on a Tuesday. The lake was beautiful and the bioluminescent is really cool, especially in the dark of the canopy on the way back.

My wife and I booked a tour and had an absolutely amazing time. We felt safe, comfortable, and were able to easily complete the kayak tour despite having hiked 6 miles earlier in the day, and I'm not exactly super fit. We went on a moonless night in February and could easily see the bioluminescence. The tour guides, especially Emily, were fantastic and explained everything thoroughly. We will definitely be back.
